The tapping sleeve consists of a two-piece precision-cast ductile iron body (EN-GJS-500-7) with heavy longitudinal bolting flanges. The internal sealing system utilizes a full-circumference or flanged-port EPDM waffle-grid sealing gasket compliant with EN 681-1 that creates a 360-degree seal around the pipe circumference. The flanged branch outlet is cast integrally with the body, reinforced with heavy gusset plates to withstand high bending moments and drilling thrust.
During installation, the sleeve is bolted around the live pipe and pressure-tested via a built-in test port. A full-bore gate valve is bolted to the sleeve flange, a hot-tap drilling machine is mounted to the valve, and the pipe wall is drilled through the open gate valve under full working pressure (up to 16 Bar). The cutter and drilled coupon are retracted, the valve is closed, and the new branch is connected without shutting off municipal water. Staged at Indus hubs in Baghdad, Basra, and Erbil.
The sleeve is bolted onto the live pipe and pressure tested. A temporary or permanent gate valve is bolted to the sleeve flange. A hot-tap drilling machine mounts to the valve. The drill cuts through the pipe wall, retracts with the cut coupon past the valve gate, the valve is closed, and the drilling machine is removed with zero water loss.
Yes. Every sleeve features a built-in 3/4-inch threaded test port. Contractors pump water or air into the sleeve cavity to 1.5 times working pressure to certify the gasket seal before drilling.
