In northern Iraqi mountainous regions (Kurdistan Region, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok) where water descends thousands of meters from mountain reservoirs, and in deep well pumping schemes, inlet pressures frequently exceed 25 to 40 Bar while downstream municipal distribution grids require only 3 to 5 Bar. Standard rubber diaphragm valves suffer immediate cavitation pitting and rapid diaphragm tearing under these severe ratios. Indus piston PRVs replace the rubber diaphragm with a solid, heavy-duty stainless steel piston guided in a precision-honed cylinder sleeve.
The internal trim incorporates a multi-stage radial-slotted anti-cavitation trim cage that splits the high-velocity flow stream into numerous micro-jets that impinge upon each other in the center of the cage. This dissipates immense kinetic energy inside the liquid core away from the valve metal walls, ensuring that vapor bubbles collapse harmlessly within the water column without eroding the valve body. Dual PTFE and FKM (Viton) low-friction quad-rings provide bubble-tight piston sealing and high hysteresis accuracy across decades of service.
The valve body is cast from high-tensile ductile iron (EN-GJS-500-7) or cast carbon steel (WCB) with heavy fusion-bonded epoxy coating (min 250 µm). When the differential pressure across a valve exceeds 15–20 Bar, the intense hydraulic shear forces and high flow turbulence rapidly tear and fatigue flexible elastomeric diaphragms. A solid stainless steel piston cannot tear, deflect, or rupture, providing reliable pressure control under 25 to 40 Bar inlet pressures.
The anti-cavitation cage breaks the incoming water stream into opposing high-velocity radial micro-jets that collide head-on in the center of the chamber. This forces cavitation vapor bubbles to implode in the liquid water rather than against the metal walls, preventing cavitation pitting and severe valve noise.
